Dabney Elementary is proud to welcome Dr. Miah Renetta Hart-Olivis as our new principal. With more than two decades of experience in education, Dr. Hart-Olivis brings a proven record of leadership, innovation, and dedication to student success. Her career spans roles from classroom teacher to district-level leader, with leadership experience across all grade levels and service in both suburban and urban school settings.
Dr. Hart-Olivis holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from High Point University, a K–12 Principal Licensure from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Master’s in Teaching from Hampton University. She is recognized for building strong relationships with students, families, and staff; leading schools through change and growth; and creating systems that promote equity, access, and achievement for all learners.
Before coming to Dabney, Dr. Hart-Olivis served as a principal, assistant principal, MTSS and Data Coordinator—leading two schools to state recognition—and human resources recruiter, where she helped recruit top-tier educators and implemented strategic initiatives to improve student outcomes. Her leadership has been marked by measurable gains in academic performance, innovative family engagement strategies, and the development of supportive, inclusive school cultures. She also contributed to educational work in New Haven, Connecticut, where she served as Academic Dean for Yale University’s Summer Institute for the Gifted, leading instructor training, coaching teachers in best practices for gifted education, and collaborating with leadership to strengthen and expand academic programming.
She is passionate about fostering a community where every child feels valued, challenged, and supported. Her leadership philosophy is rooted in the belief that great schools are built on collaboration, high expectations, and a shared commitment to student success.
Outside of school, Dr. Hart-Olivis enjoys mentoring future leaders, contributing to professional learning communities, and staying engaged in initiatives that strengthen public education. She is excited to join the Dabney family and looks forward to working alongside students, families, staff, and the community to continue building a thriving learning environment.
